Abstract
Animals have played important roles in daily lives, both in terms of standard of living and business
trends that are likely to grow every year, so the number of pets raising in Thailand has significantly increased;
consequently, there are more pet friendly condominiums. Objectives of this research aimed to study
environments, problems, and methods to renovate rooms and common areas of Happy Condominium,
Ladphrao 101, South Building, that allows 3 types of pets, which are small dogs, medium - sized and large dogs,
and cats. This research focused on space, temperature, ventilation, smell, and noise.
This study was a qualitative and short- term research which focused specifically on Happy
Condominium, Ladphrao 101, South Building. Data were collected by surveying physical environments, facilities
for pets, and usability problems of pet owners, covering both interior space in rooms and common areas for
pets. Data were collected from related websites, and interviews with 2 staffs and 8 pet owners. Research
instruments included an environmental observation form, a pets and owners’behaviors observation form, and
an interview form for pet owners, staffs and related personnel. Data were then analyzed, summarized, and
prioritized.
The finding showed that facilities for pets were available in both rooms and common areas, however,
many areas needed renovations, for instance; rooms were damaged by pets’ behaviors, floor, wall, and furniture
were not appropriate, balustrades of rooms’ balconies and stairs of common areas were too wide, elevators
were too small, and a potty area was not suitable for small dogs and cats. Recommendations for improvements
were as follows. 1) About space, rooms should be designed and decorated with materials that are suitable for
all 3 types of pets. Full facilities should be provided for pets to ensure convenience and safety. 2) About
temperature, ventilation, and smell, fans should be equipped at pet raising areas to promote air circulation and
minimize bad smell. Temperature should be set to suit types of pets. 3) About noise, sound - absorbing ceilings
and wall panels should be installed to minimize noise from outside of the room.
